Building upon their codeshare partnership first launched in 2010, the new joint venture will start on August 1. The two carriers will coordinate their flight schedules and codeshare operations between Vietnam and China, along with offering reciprocal benefits for members of their frequent flier programs.
After the launch of their codeshare partnership, the two airlines strengthened their relationship to include collaborations in technical operations and commerce in 2022.
“Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen air travel links and contribute to the development of economic, cultural and social ties between China and Vietnam,” said Ngyuen Qant Trung, director of Corporate Planning and Development, Vietnam Airlines.
“This joint venture with Vietnam Airlines marks a significant step forward in our internationalisation strategy,” added Zhang Dongsheng, deputy director general of Commercial Steering Committee, China Southern Airlines. “We will build an air bridge between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Vietnam to facilitate regional economic, trade and cultural exchanges."
Between Mainland China and Vietnam, Guangzhou, China-based China Southern operates around 111 weekly flights from five points in China – Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan, and Shanghai Pudong – to three cities in Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Nha Trang.
Vietnam Airlines operates up to 50 weekly flights to five cities in Mainland China – Beijing (Capital Airport/Daxing), Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou (Baiyun), Jinan, and Wuxi.
